Catholic Education Sandhurst is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Paul Wilkinson as the inaugural Principal of St Thomas Aquinas Primary School, Huntly.

Set to open its doors to students in 2027, St Thomas Aquinas Primary School will be the newest addition to the Sandhurst network of Catholic schools, offering high-quality and affordable education to families in the growing Huntly community.

Known to many in the Bendigo region, Mr Wilkinson brings more than 30 years of service in Catholic education including over two decades in principalship. He is currently the principal of Holy Rosary Primary School in White Hills, where he has provided strong leadership over the past 11 years.

“I am thrilled by the opportunity to establish St Thomas Aquinas in Huntly, a school that will not just provide excellent learning, but also offer a place of faith, welcome and belonging for every child and family,” said Mr Wilkinson.

Catholic Education Sandhurst Executive Director Ms Kate Fogarty welcomed the appointment saying, “We are delighted to have Paul lead this exciting new chapter in Catholic education. His vision and dedication will be instrumental in shaping a vibrant school culture from the ground up.”

Mr Wilkinson will commence in Term 1 2026, to oversee preparations for the new school.

“I look forward to engaging with the Huntly community as we take each step together in building this school. From the planning stages through to the first day of classes, I want families to feel included in the journey, knowing this is their school too,” said Mr Wilkinson.

St Thomas Aquinas Primary School will open its doors in 2027 for students in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2. Situated on a beautiful 5.66-hectare site, the school is projected to grow to over 650 Foundation to Year 6 students once fully established.

The school is named in honour of St Thomas Aquinas, whose legacy of scholarship, faith and lifelong learning will inspire the school’s culture and identity. The name also pays tribute to the historical St Thomas Catholic Church which served the Huntly community for over a century.
