Unit Outline:

In this unit, students explore the meaning of religion and the place of religious practice in life. Human beings are drawn towards the search for answers to fundamental questions such as the meaning and purpose of all life.

Achievement Standards:

By the end of Year Eight:
Students will be able to articulate an understanding and an appreciation of the nature and role of religion in society and in people’s lives.

Unit Outcomes:

By the end of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Appreciate the role of religion in human society as a means of responding to questions of life’s meaning and purpose.
  2. Apply the elements of a religion to a study of the core features of Christianity (with a focus on Catholicism), Judaism, and Islam.
  3. Appreciate the ways in which Aboriginal Spirituality contributes to the life of the Church in Australia.
